The Post Doc Package: A Practical Guide for Success

This interactive program is designed to meet the needs of scholars embarking upon a post doctoral appointment. The goal is to provide practical information and guidance for a successful transition into this new role which ultimately serves as a stepping stone to a tenure track position.

This four month comprehensive package of individualized career coaching services combined with monthly webinars and forums covers a range of topics to meet the professional development needs of post docs. This package will provide you with the support and information you need to lay the ground work for your successful transition into a tenure track position at the end of your post doc appointment.

Month/Webinar Topic:

August:
Each participant will have an opportunity to schedule an individual 30 minute phone conversation to explore personal goals, hopes and concerns as you embark upon the new academic year. This initial conversation will allow me to know you as an individual and be better able to tailor the coaching feedback and support I provide to you throughout the year. Forum opens for group interaction.

September 7th, 2009:
Creating an individual career development plan for your ideal post doc experience. Developing an individualized plan clarifying your career goals and prioritizing your time accordingly is the first step to creating focused and productive post doc experience.

October 5th, 2009:
Achieving Academic Inclusion; Networking Effectively Within Your Institution. Identifying ways to effectively increase your visibility and develop collaborative partnerships across your campus is an important step toward the future.

November 2nd, 2009:
Get It Revised, Get It Published. Mastering how to revise your writing is a crucial skill that you must possess in order to make progress and publish. Faculty will share their experiences and tips as to how they have mastered the process of revision.

December 7th, 2009:
Teaching With A Interdisciplinary Focus. Build your repertoire in developing interactive teaching techniques and crafting assignments from an interdisciplinary approach that will improve your student’s learning as well as your teaching evaluations.

Webinars occur on the 1st Monday of each month from 5:00 PM – 6:00 PM. If you are unable to attend the interactive live webinar the slides will be made available for you afterwards. Forums are open to participants throughout the series. In order to provide you with the individualized attention you deserve, registration is limited to 20 participants per package.

Package Costs:

$450 onetime fee for 4 months of career coaching and guidance specific to your academic job search. This package includes one 30 minute phone coaching session per month, email support, participation in monthly webinars, and access to a private group forum with webcasts/video interviews with faculty who are eager to share their insights about how to be successful in your post doc position. At the completion of the package participants will be given a $20 off coupon good for one private coaching session in 2010 .
